Fat VS. Muscle

Your body needs both fat and muscle to survive. There is a such thing as having too much though, and not being healthy because of it. You need to eat fat and have fat on your body; but once you get in the high 20s for your BMI (Body Mass Index), then you are getting to a place that is not healthy for you or your body! People are considered obese by CDC (Centers for Disease Control) standards when your BMI is 30 or more,

You are considered underweight If your BMI is less than 18.5. If your BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9 you are at a normal or healthy weight . If your BMI is between 25 and 29.9, you are overweight.

Some issues you might have if you’re obese are: high blood pressure; diabetes; heart disease; stroke; sleep apnea; cancers; low quality of life; body pain, etc. These issues, provided they are not hereditary, could be healed, or never gotten in the first place if you get healthy and fit! If you are currently overweight or obese, and have any of these issues, if you get to a healthier weight, then you could potentially get rid of your issues!

Healthy people live longer and have a better quality of life. Don’t you want that for yourself?

Here’s a picture that shows you 5 pounds of fat vs. 5 pounds of muscle. The fat takes up way more space than the muscle! Muscle is more compact, and muscle burns more calories a day than fat does. Having muscle is so much better for your body all around!

I know a lot of women have a common misconception that if they lift weights, they’ll bulk up – that is so not true! I thought the same thing 10 years ago before I began working out with a personal trainer. As long as you lift a light to moderate weight and do more repetitions, you will not bulk up. It is when you lift heavy weights and do less repetitions that you bulk up, which is how most men workout. Along with lifting weights, doing cardio is a must to burn more fat and lose weight. You will get fit and healthy if you do cardio and weight lifting together.
